Since 1992, the VanGo! Museum on Wheels has brought museum-quality artwork to schools and events throughout the region. The program gives visitors of all ages an authentic art museum experience while reinforcing existing school curriculum and standards. The current VanGo! Museum on Wheels is a 31-foot Winnebago Sightseer retrofitted with a gallery space. Visits include tours onboard the VanGo, group assemblies, and a hands-on activity. Exhibitions rotate on an annual basis.
The 2018 VanGo! Museum on Wheels, titled Behind the Scenes, is an exploration of the jobs and tools inside art museums. Through an engaging combination of interactive displays and original artworks by renowned artists, visitors will get first-hand as both curators and conservators.
Behind the Scenes is made possible with generous support from the Patricia L. Murray Fund, a fund of the Greater Harrisburg Foundation, a regional foundation of The Foundation for Enhancing Communities.
The Susquehanna Art Museum charges host sites a fee for each visit. Pricing for on-site visits vary and are contingent upon the visitor’s location and the duration of the visit. The VanGo! can accommodate 12-15 visitors per tour group. We recommend that each tour group spends 10-15 minutes in the exhibition. The group interactive and group assembly portions are optional.
