In the meantime, we have TWO wonderful performances that we invite you to enjoy virtually!
The first piece is entitled Devi Neeye Tunai
Oh Goddess, you are my only sense of hope and security.
In this Padam (an expression oriented dance number in Bharatanatyam), the dancer seeks blessings from Goddess Devi, the fish eyed beauty who resides in the temple town of Madurai. She has been portrayed as the beauty who stole Lord Shiva’s heart. A skilled huntress as well as a very learned woman, she has been praised in all the scholarly scriptures as a multitalented personality who is also a graceful dancer, a melodious singer and Veena player. A powerful entity, Devi is the one who portrays strength, courage and compassion.
Composer: Sir Papanasam Sivan
Performer: Mrs. Rachita Nambiar
The second piece is a descriptive Bharatanatyam dance in praise of Goddess Durga, who is a slayer of the demon Mahishasura in Hindu mythology.
