Experiential Learning for Kids and Families

SAM’s youth art programs explore art making, art history and art appreciation, providing a quality art education experience where students have the opportunity to learn from original works of art in a museum setting. All classes provide a forum where self-expression, experimentation, and cultivating a sense of inquiry are integral parts of the educational experience.

December 4TH FROM 2-5PM

Looking for an opportunity to be creative, expressive, and productive with any or all members of the family during the holiday season?

Make a plan to go to the museum together on Sunday, December 4th between 2:00 – 5:00pm. Meet artist and instructor Melanie Gaskins in the Education Center. She will be offering her special project: Creating a Collage That Tells the Story of Your Family. Bring in copies of family photographs, letters, poems, newspaper clippings, or even scraps of sentimental fabrics to incorporate into a collaborative, original work of art. This will be an excellent conversation starter as the centerpiece of your dining room or family room during the holidays, or a one-of-a-kind present for your family historian. While you are here, take a break and go on a scavenger hunt as a team and see the exhibition African American Art Since 1950 on view in the main gallery.
